Mickey B. Smith, Ph.D.

I am an award-winning scholar and seasoned executive consultant. I founded Smith Executive, LLC (formerly SmithORC) in 2014 as a means to bridge the gap between academic research and best practices. Ultimately, I found that my interests were more aligned with executive-level consulting, and over the last 6+ years, I have exclusively worked with top management teams to improve both individual and collective executive capabilities - that is, I’ve helped executive teams act more like the teams they’re truly meant to be!

Over the last 10+ years, I have worked with companies in various industries. This experience has offered me the chance to develop generalizable strategies for helping executives deal with common issues while also providing perspective on how industry and firm-specific factors require nuanced approaches at times. Thus, I focus on offering an evidence-based approach that is tailored to meet specific client needs.

As a management professor, I have published 15+ peer-reviewed articles (cited over 2,500 times) on how people’s characteristics and traits influence their performance as well as the critical role of leader-driven workplace climates. These articles have appeared in some of our premier journals including the Journal of Applied Psychology and Journal of Management.
